After the US Presidential election, New York is preparing for a major confrontation for the upcoming distinct unoccupied position of a City Council Speaker, one of the most influential and powerful post in the city. Because of the limitations of law the current speaker (scheduled to address the city on Thursday) cannot run the poll again, neither can the other respective council members.

Democratic leader’s vote and Mayor’s role will also matter in this regard as the Mayor interposed and got involved in speakers selection and worked as an equalizer between Dan Garodnick and Ms. Mark-Viverito.

In January 2014, Ms. Mark-Viverito succeeded to get 51 votes when Mr. Garodnick got dropped out from the selection, and ever after Queens and Bronx formed a team together to back a candidate since they both would not support a Queens candidate otherwise one administrative division would get a great degree of power since.
